1. Vehicle History Report
Always ask for a full vehicle history report. It should show accident history, previous ownership, odometer readings, and whether the car has ever been written off. A dealership with nothing to hide will hand this over without hesitation — it’s something we provide with every vehicle on our lot.
2. Multi-Point Mechanical Inspection
A used car might look great on the outside and still have issues under the hood. Ask whether the vehicle has gone through a professional multi-point inspection covering the engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, and electrical systems. 3. Mileage vs. Age
Don’t judge a car by its age alone. A 2020 model with 118,000 km has been driven harder than a 2016 model with 60,000 km. Look at how the mileage lines up with typical annual use (12,000–20,000 km per year is average) to spot vehicles that were driven unusually hard — or barely at all.
4. Maintenance Records
Ask for service records. Regular oil changes, brake service, and timing belt replacements (where applicable) are strong signs the previous owner took care of the vehicle.
5. Test Drive in Different Conditions
Take the car on the highway and through city streets. Listen for unusual noises, test the brakes firmly, and check that the transmission shifts smoothly. If possible, drive it when it’s cold to see how it starts.
6. Financing Pre-Approval
Before you fall in love with a specific vehicle, know your budget. Getting pre-approved for financing gives you negotiating power and helps you shop with confidence, whatever your credit situation.
